Fracchia works predominately in collage and drawing. He
collects imagery from a number of different sources such as photographs taken
while travelling or ones found in old books or magazines. Through cutting out
and storing particular elements from these photographs, Fracchia builds a repertoire
of figure and scene references. Through collage Fracchia takes on the role of a
kind of casting director, where his collected imagery forms a cast around which
he constructs a set, so that his audience is presented with a performance on
paper. Through re-interpretations made through drawing, Fracchia carefully
eliminates any trace of where these images came from, presenting a new reality where
an ironic juxtaposition is developed. He is inspired by; the combination
printing of pictorialist photographer, Henry Peach Robinson, Eric Fischl’s
fresh narrative style of painting, the “highly-staged and ambiguous” paintings,
drawings and films of Michael Borremans and the collages and paintings by Max
Ernst.
